Poolincluded Tips

What to do in Makarska?

The town of Makarska is located on the Adriatic Sea and is about 60 kilometres south of Split. Makarska itself is situated in a beautiful bay at the bottom of Biokovo mountain range and together with Baška Voda, Brela and Tučepi, Makarska forms the Makarska Riviera. The landscape of Makarska is impressive, as the cliffs of the Biokovo Mountains rise steeply. A tip from Poolincluded is enjoy the beautiful mountains while floating in the Adriatic Sea. The city is typically Mediterranean, the centre has many palm trees along the promenade and numerous terraces. The Riviera also has great beaches. The Biokovo Mountains protect the port during strong storms. Because the mountains protect the city from foul weather, it is very mild throughout the year. The Riviera is an ideal holiday destination for active people, as the mountains offer many mountain bike paths, hiking trails and paths for hiking. Another tip from Poolincluded: on a clear day, hike to Sveti Jure, which is the highest mountain peak. When it’s clear, you can see Italy! During the months of May to September, the Biokovo Natural Park is open, it is located on a part of the Biokovo Mountains.

The city has many cosy restaurants and taverns. More of the pizzerias? Then Poolincluded advises you to visit Domina, which is the most popular pizzeria of Makarska. The centre has no shopping centre, but there are plenty of supermarkets. If you really want to shop, visit Split. For night lovers, there are plenty of cafes, discotheques, clubs, and cocktail bars. During the day, you can enjoy the beautiful beaches, which is what Makarska is also known for. For quiet beaches, visit other smaller towns in the Riviera area, because Makarska is quite touristy!
