What to do in Vrsi?
Vrsi is a small resort on a peninsula near the city of Zadar. This small fishing village is popular among tourists who want to enjoy peace and quiet. A local tip for those who visit Vrsi and want to taste the local specialities, the restaurant “Smokvica” is a must!
From Vrsi you can reach the city of Zadar in half an hour, a visit to this city cannot be excluded during your holiday. The old centre has a rich history and you can visit old churches, the city wall and ruins. In the centre, there is also a museum where you can learn a lot about the history of the city. In the old city there are also several squares with cosy restaurants and bars, where you can have a drink or something to eat after a city walk.
A visit to the peninsula of Pag is also recommended. This island is known for its sheep cheese. The wind that blows over the island comes from the sea and contains salt, which then comes down to the island. The sheep graze on the island and then eat the salt because it is on the grass. Therefore, the cheeses made from the sheep’s milk are extra salty, which gives the cheese its unique flavour. A little past the town of Pag is the village of Kolan, where the cheese factory is located and where you can also visit it. In the factory you get to see the whole process of how the cheeses are made.
For the active ones among us, a trip to national park Paklenica is a must! This park has more than 200km of trails and you can; hike, bike and climb. Paklenica park is located next to Starigrad and is about 45 minutes drive. You can explore the park on your own, but it is also possible to book an excursion. You can choose between a half-day or a full-day excursion, in which case you go on a guided tour of the park.
The weather in Vrsi
Vrsi has a Mediterranean climate, with warm and dry summers and mild winters. In the summer, the Velebit mountains keep the rain out. However, in autumn, winter and spring rain can fall regularly.
