What to do in Algarve – Faro?

If you fly to the Algarve, your trip in Portugal will probably start in Faro. Faro is a perfect city for a city trip or a day trip. Stroll through the nice streets, enjoy the beautiful buildings and discover the port. The Algarve itself is known for its beautiful beaches, which have been voted the most beautiful in Europe several times. The most famous beaches are Praio do Camilo, Praia do Amado, Praia da Marinha and Praia da Falésia. Not only the beaches are beautiful in this region, also the walking routes! A tip from Poolincluded is the hiking route: ‘Seven Hanging Valleys Trail’, this route is about 6 kilometres long and goes past some beautiful sights. This route starts at Praia da Marinha.

In the Algarve region, you will also find the southernmost point of mainland Europe, namely Cape Saint Vincent (Cabo de São Vicente). At this point, you can enjoy great views and beautiful cliffs. What also makes this place so famous is the sunset. If you have the time, come and walk around this place and end your day watching the sunset here… it is beautiful (just check the weather)!

The city of Lagos is also worth a visit, and there are plenty of nice sights near the city. The city itself has plenty of nice streets, cosy bars and tasty restaurants. Near Lagos, you will find a really beautiful sight: Ponta da Piedade! You can take a lovely walk here or just enjoy all the beauty. The sea is beautifully blue and the cliffs are steep. If you come for a walk, just follow the marked path and you will enjoy all kinds of beautiful natural phenomena.

Culinary journey through Algarve – Faro

In between Faro and Quarteira lies the village of Almancil. If you are in the neighbourhood, be sure to visit the restaurant Brava. This is really one of those restaurants that you want to visit more often after your first time. There is enough choice and the wide choice does not spoil the quality, which you sometimes see at other restaurants. You are also seated in a nice garden during your dinner/lunch. Near Portimão, in a small village, you will find Quinta Dos Santos, which is a brewery, winery and restaurant in one. If you want to visit this place, it is important to make a reservation! Enjoy your meal, your drink and the view over the vineyard. The village of Alvor, to the east of Lagos, also has a lovely restaurant. Here you will find Caniço, a restaurant overlooking a bay. Here, you can enjoy delicious fish and tasty sangria. Again, make a reservation! It is always very busy here, so getting the food on the table can take a bit longer (remember this if you are eating here with children). This restaurant opens its doors in April.

The climate in the Algarve is also called a ‘Mediterranean climate’ or ‘Mediterranean climate’.
