In the meantime I have been on holiday in quite a few different countries, and I have also got to know many different cultures. Winter sports in Austria always rank high on my list because I love nature and skiing. Me and my family have been to Croatia several times by car, we find this very convenient because you can take all your own stuff with you.
My favorite place in Istria
In the summer of 2020 I went on holiday in Umag with my family, Umag is one of the most beautiful authentic towns in Istria. The city of Umag is known for its large marina complex around which the city is built. Along the water you will mainly find fish restaurants where you can order delicious fresh fish every day. The old city center was built in the 14e century and already at the end of the 14e century the city was plundered by the Genoese. Fortunately, the city has recovered from the looting over the years and the old center is definitely worth seeing. The remaining city walls and towers, such as the Venetian bell tower built in the 17de century, are a pleasure for the eyes!
With the family we also went by car to the nearby town of Monterol for a day. Here are several restaurants and very pleasant streets to stroll through. A perfect city to completely unwind. One of the best activities I found was the boat trip that departed from the port of Umag. The boat went along the coast of Umag and the villages around it. During the boat trip we were also allowed to swim / snorkel in the sea. I thought this was a really special experience because the water was very clear and clean.
Villa Stancija Katerina
We stayed in villa “Stancija Katerina di Maladel by Poolincluded”, the villa was very nice/big and the villa was in a quiet place close to the city. We had a private swimming pool (which is heated in winter) and a wonderful spa where we could relax after a long day. This wellness has 2 saunas and a fitness room. We had a total of 4 bedrooms at our disposal so this was really ideal for us. We really loved the space both in and around the house! The villa itself was about a 5 to 10 minute walk from Umag and was easy to do with the sunny weather of Croatia.
