What to do in Traunstein?

About 15 minutes drive from Traunstein is Germany’s third largest lake, the Chiemsee. This lake was created after the last ice age by the melting of a glacier. It is a rather special lake because it gets smaller every year as stones and sand are brought in. This happens especially at the Tiroler Achen, this river delta stretches over a grandiose landscape. Every day, trucks are working here to save the landscape! The islands in the Chiemsee can also be visited, and the area is perfect for hiking and all kinds of water sports.

100 kilometres from Traunstein is the largest city in the province of Bavaria, Munich. This metropolis is home to one of the oldest museums in the world, the Alte Pinakothek. Several art greats hang in this museum, such as Titian and Da Vinci. More of a car fan? The BMW museum is also located in this city. Curious about the history of this car brand, be sure to take a look! The architecture looks like a ‘salad bowl’. You can also have a look at the newest BMW models, next to the museum is the building: BMW World. Football fans can go to the great stadium of FC Bayern Munich. The Allianz Stadium is one of the biggest in the world, and one of the biggest clubs plays there too!

In Inzell, there is also a very nice hiking trail, the Moor-Erlebnis-Pfad. While walking this route, you pass several information boards that give you information about the nature reserve. There are also certain ‘interactive’ stations where you can investigate something. The entire path is easily accessible for people with prams, for example. By the way, this walking route is not open all year round. Of course, there are many more beautiful hiking and cycling routes in this area, the nature and the area lend themselves perfectly for this!

The weather in Traunstein

Traunstein has a continental climate. The highest temperatures of the year can be experienced in the month of July, around 21°C. The coldest month is January. The best time to travel, if you want to enjoy the sun, is from May to September when you will have mild or pleasant temperatures and little to no precipitation.
